Add A Patio Awning To Your Outdoor Living Area

Our gardens have recently been christened as the newest room in the modern house due to the amount of living that is now done outside. The patio is the main area for this outdoor living, this is where we sit and eat in summer, hold barbecues and relax as the sun is setting. So it is no surprise to see the amount of accessories that are available to make the patio a more comfortable place to live in. Patio awnings are an integral part of this living area, keep us in the shade when the sun is too hot enabling us to continue living outdoors as well as keeping us dry when the weather is inclement.

With so many uses an outdoor shade canopy is really great value. You can use it when it’s raining to keep you, your family and your guests dry and in the height of summer when it may be unwise to sit out in the midday sun you can use it to stay outdoors but in the shade. Awnings are available in a number of different materials such as cloth fabric, corrugated metal or a waterproof rubberized material. Depending on your intended use and the climate of where you live some options are better than others.

For instance, if you live somewhere where you may get sudden downpours or showers of rain the fabric cloth version may not be the best option, likewise if you live somewhere where it very rarely rains but you still need an awning to protect you from the sun you may not need the waterproof fabric version. These are all things that you will need to consider before purchasing your awning as there seems very little point in paying over the odds for an awning if you don’t need half of the features and benefits that it can offer you.

Other features that some of the different models are as follows. With some of the better quality models you are able to open the awning out in incremental steps so you can choose exactly how much of your patio area is in the shade, ideal if some people want to stay in the sun but a few want to take some shelter from the heat. The cheaper models that are available on the market only open fully and close fully and therefore do not offer the versatility of the better quality models. It is possible to get the more expensive models available with a remote control unit to save you having to wind the awning in and out every time it is used, the other benefit of this is that the remote controlled version is much quicker to operate, very handy if you get caught in a sudden downpour of rain.

If you are not very adept at handy work it may be an idea to get a tradesman or someone who specializes in fitting patio awnings to fit yours for you as they can be quite tricky fit, especially where the workings and mechanics of the unit are concerned. As awnings can be quite expensive I’d always recommend getting an expert to fit your unit, at least you know it will be fitted correctly and will be in perfect working order when finished. That just leaves me to wish you all a very good and long summer, and remember to keep out of the midday sun.
